For some patients with varicose veins, conservative treatment simply isn’t enough to manage symptoms and retain their quality of life. Endovenous laser ablation (EVLA) is a minimally-invasive treatment that we perform at our top vascular center in Bergen County to provide fast, effective relief from varicose vein symptoms. EVLA is highly successful, requires a short recovery time, and you will be fully ambulatory following the treatments.
EVLA is performed by a vascular specialist in Hackensack who inserts a catheter with a laser into the diseased vein through a tiny incision. Ultrasound is used to guide the catheter to the area where the walls of the vein have become damaged.
The laser produces heat that damages the vein wall so that it collapses. This allows the vein to become permanently sealed and blood flow is redirected through other healthy veins.
Due to the minimally-invasive nature of endovenous laser ablation, there is less risk to the patient than with surgery and most patients experience no more than minimal pain. For many of our patients, the experience of having EVLT performed is a much better option than experiencing the symptoms of vein disease on a daily basis.
